It’s been rumoured for a while, but actress Julie Delpy has been confirmed as the director of an upcoming biopic on the late Clash front man Joe Strummer.
Delpy has mentioned that the film will be centred around Strummer’s life in and around 1982 when he planned to retire from public life. Word on the street is that he went to Paris where he took part in the Paris Marathon after drinking ten pints the night before.
Strummer died in 2002 from an undiagnosed heart defect.
The film will be named after the Clash song ‘The Right Profile’, which was on the band’s 1979 album ‘London Calling’.
The screenplay was written by Paul Viragh, who also wrote the screenplay for ‘Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll’, the Ian Dury biopic.
Director Julie Delpy has been in a number of French and American films over her 30 year career, although her directing experience is limited.
The film is yet to be given an official release date.
