Justin Bieber has left his mark on a Gold Coast, Queensland hotel, painting the wall with his signature graffiti.
The work of art can be viewed at the QT Hotel at Surfers Paradise but while the hotel management call it a “piece of art” the Gold Coast City Council call it ‘vandalism” and have ordered it removed.
Bieber created the piece of art while staying at the hotel earlier this week. Now that he has left the location the hotel can confirm he created the piece and called it “a coup for the hotel to have Justin want to paint a piece of art as appreciation of his stay”.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tait said that he would be sending Bieber a graffiti removal kit and will issue a notice for the hotel to clean it up. The artwork is on private property but council claims they can have it removed because it is within public view.
However, Queensland Attorney General Jarrod Bleijie says it will be up to the hotel to make a complaint, not the council. The hotel approved the work in advance. At their Facebook page they state, “he asked and we said yes”.
QT Hotel management has now called on other artists to contribute their talent to the hotel walls. “In true QT Style, our management have decided to make it into something positive for the arts community and are calling out to the graffiti artists of Australia to show us what you’ve got! Here is the drill from the Gold Coast team. I have a shout out to you graffers out there. We are going to donate a wall to you at out hotel”.
