Pop star Justin Bieber found being in love for the first time “magical”.
Bieber’s first serious relationship was with fellow musician Selena Gomez. The couple initially got together in 2010 but broke up two years later. They have spent the last couple of years in an on-again, off-again cycle. Though they are currently apart, it hasn’t stopped Justin from reflecting on his feelings for the 23 year old.
“I put so much of myself on the line with her, because I was so distant with everyone else…So when I found that love I was just like, ‘Woah, I want to hold on to this,’” he told i-D magazine, before explaining what first love felt like. “It’s like, magical. There’s nothing like it. So I felt that and I just didn’t want to let it go.”
Unfortunately the 21 year old wasn’t able to hang on to his first love but recently told Ellen DeGeneres that he hasn’t completely ruled out rekindling his romance with Selena again at some point. In the meantime the star is focusing on his return to music with new album Purpose, and has credited his close friends Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin and Gigi Hadid, for being there for him during life’s many ups and downs.
“They are literally the sweetest girls,” he smiled. “They have the best hearts. They care about me in the same way that I care about them. When people say mean things about them, I get defensive and when it happens to me they get defensive.”
The girls have been a great support to Justin, particularly when he found himself in trouble with the law last year (14). But the singer has put all that behind him and is thrilled his new music has been so well received by his fans.
“I think it’s more relatable now,” he continued. “When I had that young voice it was hard for people to connect. Dudes can listen to it now and say, ‘Yeah, I like that new Bieber song.’”
