Kanye West joined forces with rap collaborator Kid Cudi on Thursday to stage a surprise show at a Los Angeles nightclub.
The longtime friends recently formed the duo Kids See Ghosts and released a self-titled album in June (18), and earlier this week , it was revealed the new band would make its official stage debut as a headliner for Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Naw Carnival in Los Angeles in November (18).
However, club-goers were given a sneak peek of what to expect on Thursday as Kanye and Cudi took over the Los Candiles venue for a special set.
According to posts on social media, they didn’t perform any songs from the Kids See Ghosts project, but played Ghost Town, their collaboration from Kanye’s latest album Ye, for the first time.
They also treated the crowd to renditions of the hip-hop superstar’s hits Can’t Tell Me Nothing and Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1, on which Cudi also features.
Kanye’s sister-in-law, Kendall Jenner, was among the lucky few in attendance, and she shared clips from the concert on her Instagram Story timeline. His wife Kim Kardashian was not in the audience – she was in Miami, Florida with the couple’s three children.
The mini-gig marked one of only a handful of times the Power hitmaker has taken to the stage following his hospitalisation for exhaustion in late 2016, which caused him to cancel the rest of his Saint Pablo Tour.
He made his performance comeback in November (17), during Cudi’s Passion, Pain and Demon Slayin’ Tour stop in Kanye’s native Chicago, Illinois, and also made an unexpected appearance at the Day ‘n’ Nite rapper’s Los Angeles gig in February (18), during the NBA All-Star Weekend.
