Katy Perry was only one of the many stars who have taken to social media to send their well wishes to victims of the tornado that has devastated central Oklahoma.
Like millions of people all over the globe, the singer expressed her heartfelt sympathy for those whose lives have been irrevocably affected by the natural disaster.
On Monday, a huge twister tore across the US state and destroyed a suburb of Oklahoma City.
At least 24 people have been confirmed dead – despite earlier reports that 51 bodies were found, 20 of them children. However, these figures have since been revised as rescue teams continue to search for survivors.
“Sending out prayers for the people of Oklahoma tonight. Let’s help, just text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate 10 dollars to those in need,” Katy tweeted earlier today.
Oklahoma native Carrie Underwood was understandably shaken up by news of the tragedy.
The country star revealed she had grown up living with the fear of experiencing the destructive force of a wind storm.
“Growing up in tornado alley, you always know what could happen,” she wrote on Twitter. “It doesn’t change how devastating it is when something does happen … I’m thinking about and praying for my beautiful home state and the people in it tonight.”
Beyoncé Knowles published her thoughts on picture-sharing site Instagram.
“Prayers for #Moore Oklahoma,” she wrote, while younger sister Solange tweeted, “Oklahoma, you are in my thoughts”.
Rihanna and ex-boyfriend Chris Brown also expressed their sympathy.
Other stars sending their well wishes and prayers included Khloé Kardashian, Alyssa Milano, Ellen DeGeneres, Rosie O’Donnell, Olivia Munn and many others.
