Keith Richards has been reinvigorated. Not only has he been touring for the last couple of years with the Rolling Stones but he’s gone back into the studio to record his first solo album in 23 years.
Crosseyed Heart will be released September 18, his first since 1992’s Main Offender.
Joining Richards on the album are guitarist Waddy Wachtel, drummer Steve Jordan and keyboard player Ivan Neville, all of whom played on both Main Offender and Richards’ solo debut, 1988’s Talk is Cheap, along with vocalist Bernard Fowler who was on Offender. Richards plays guitar, acoustic guitar, bass and piano on the release.
Richards said of the album “I had a ball making this new record and working with Steve Jordan and Waddy Wachtel again. There’s nothing like walking into a studio and having absolutely no idea what you’re going to come out with on the other end.”
There is no track list for the album yet but it is known that most of the music was written by Richards and Jordan and includes a duets with Norah Jones (Illusion), Aaron Neville (Nothing on Me) and Larry Campbell (Robbed Blind). The late Bobby Keys is also heard on two tracks as is keyboardist Spooner Oldham.
Look for the first single from the album, Trouble, next Friday, July 17.
