Keith Urban Christens New Album ‘ripChord’

Keith Urban has been promising a new album for upwards of a year but has kept details tightly reigned in. For some, that would have been out of secrecy. For Urban, he was just too busy to put the finishing touches on the set.

On May 6, Urban will release his new album, Ripcord and it isn’t just his voice and dazzling guitar. This time around, he is joined by Carrie Underwood and Pitbull and counts Nile Rodgers among the producers.

KEITH URBAN TO TOUR AUSTRALIA IN DECEMBER

Rodgers co-produced the track Sun Don’t Let Me Down, which also includes Pitbull, with Urban and busbee. Keith said the track “was basically finished but there was this musical breakdown about half-way into the song that we were going to leave, and then I heard this Pitbull song. I’ve always loved his vocal style and swagger, and in that moment I could hear his voice in the breakdown of the song. So I called Nile (Rodgers) and asked him if he could send the song to Pitbull. Thankfully he felt it, spat out a verse, and it was the most incredible feeling hearing him on the track for the first time. It suited the spirit of the song.”

Keith has already released three songs from the album. John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16 came out in the middle of 2015 and went to number 2 on the Country and 40 on the Hot 100. He followed with Break on Me (2015 / #6 Country / #54 Pop) and the current hit Wasted Time.

Underwood joins Urban on The Fighter. “Carrie and I toured together a few years ago and every night we’d do a song together. I’ve always loved singing with her. We had written this song, The Fighter, that needed a female voice and Carrie’s voice immediately came to mind. I can’t wait for people to hear it and hope that we get to do it live.”
