Keith Urban will be a featured speaker at SXSW in 2018.

Urban will speak on Music Culture & Stories at the Austin Convention Center during SXSW.

While Australia claims Keith as their own, Keith Urban was actually born in New Zealand and didn’t move to Australia until he was 17. He has only lived in Australia for 12 years.

Keith’s career took off in Australia after he appeared on the TV Talent show New Faces. Over the next few years he wove his way around Australia’s country music festivals and in 1990 was signed to EMI in Australia. His first studio album, ‘Keith Urban’ was released in 1991. It went unnoticed.

Over the next few years Keith had a variety of jobs including doing backing vocals for INXS on ‘Live Baby Live’.

In 1992 Keith moved to Nashville and after numerous session gigs he formed the band The Ranch with Peter Clarke and Jerry Flowers and released one album for Capitol Nashville.

Keith’s US debut solo album was released in 1999.

SXSW is on March 9-18 2018 in Austin Texas.
