Kimbra will release her second album ‘The Golden Echo’ in August.
Kimbra previewed the album with the first single ’90’s Music’, a homage to Marry J Blige and TLC and says the album is something different for fans to look forward too. “90s Music” embraces so many things I like to explore musically,” Kimbra says. “I am always attracted to the meeting place of light and dark, sweet and sour – the juxtaposition of angular sounds and head-crushing distorted elements sitting alongside a breathy bubblegum vocal. Instead of making the track a throwback musically, I wanted it to feel like a nod to the past from a futurist perspective.”
‘The Golden Echo’ was produced by Rich Costey (Muse, Interpol) and Major Dudes (comprising of Timon Martin & Stevie Cat Junior who also play in Kimbra’s band and appear on the song).
‘The Golden Echo’ follows up 2011 ‘Vows’ which scored Kimbra to no. 14 position in the USA.
Kimbra also shared a global no. 1 spot with Gotye on his hit ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’.
Kimbra is currently attempting to tour Australia with Janelle Monáe although Monáe blew out the first Sydney and Melbourne shows due to illness.
The tour is expected to resume Thursday night in Brisbane.
Kimbra and Janelle Monáe tour dates
May 22, Brisbane, The Tivoli
May 24, Auckland, Vector Arena
May 26, Melbourne, The Plenary
