Australian music industry identity Kirsty Rivers has been appointed to the newly created role of Manager, Contemporary Music for the Andrews Labor Government’s Music Works program as part of Creative Victoria.
For the past 18 years Ms Rivers has been the face of APRA in Victoria. She was recently National Manager for Writer Services at APRA AMCOS, responsible for membership departments in APRA’s five state offices. Kirsty has also been a board member of The Push for the past 10 years. She was a founding board member of Music Victoria and a board member of PBS community radio.
Kirsy’s appointment and funding for the Music Works package was revealed today by Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley.
“Victoria is the music capital of Australia. It’s part of our culture and why we’re a great place to live and visit,” Mr Foley said in a statement.
Music Works will support young and emerging musicians and live music venues, boosting tourism and creating jobs. “Music Works will support local acts every step of the way, helping to support musicians, grow the musical element of our creative industries and create jobs,” he said. “From the next great Victorian band playing out of a garage to live music venues across our state, Labor is supporting the works that give our state so much in return.”
Victoria Rocks will open applications for the funding the second half of 2015.
