Punk band Death Valley Girls from the streets of Echo Park, Los Angeles, have sourced the far reaches of Australia to cover the Oz Rock Classic ‘Horror Movie’ by Skyhooks.
Death Valley Girls Skyhooks cover will feature on their upcoming album ‘Glow In The Dark’.
The song is an usual cover for an American band given Skyhooks are barely known outside Australia. Death Valley Girls acknowledge Iron Maiden for sending in the direction of Skyhooks.
“We were already Skyhooks fans and were first made aware of them by Iron Maidens cover of the Skyhooks song Women in Uniform,” Death Valley Girls’ Larry Schemel tells Noise11.com.
Lee Rickard from Burger Records suggested the song. “We thought that was a great idea,” Larry said. “We loved the song, it’s kinda dark and heavy but still catchy, we were sold on it after we watched a clip of Skyhooks performing it live on Australian music show Countdown”.
Ross Wilson, Oz rock legend and the producer of Skyhooks’ first three albums (including the song Horror Movie), noticed the new Death Valley Girls version of the song he worked on 42 years ago and tweeted his approval.

“We just saw the story (Ross) posted, quite an honor to have Ross Wilson approve of our version! Thanks again, we hope to come to Australia soon,” Larry added.
