Opposition leader Dan Andrews has announced $2 million in funding for music education in Victorian schools.
Labor will contribute to the project so that all Victorian public school students will have the opportunity to commence or refresh their music education.
“Exposure to music education means better grades, better results and better attendance – it’s a proven link,” Dan Andrews said. “Kids love music and I want them to enjoy it at school too.”
As part of the funding Labor will establish a $400,000 grants for schools to purchase musical instruments. The partnership will be with Musical Futures Australia who will also administer $200,000 in additional funding to train and mentor primary teachers with the tools of musical education before they enter the classroom.
“We’ll bring music lessons to every Victorian school and we’ll help them with the cost of instruments because no child should miss out,” Mr Andrews said.
The Victorian election will be held on November 29.
