Lauryn Hill reportedly enjoyed a barbeque meal for her first prison dinner.
The singer entered a Federal Correctional Institute in Danbury, Connecticut on Monday, according to TMZ.
Apparently the star’s food choice wasn’t so bad for being behind bars.
The website reports she ate ‘tasty BBQ pulled pork with a side of carrots, peas and sweet potatoes.’ She was then able to choose from a selection of juices or milk.
Lauryn checked in for three months in jail for tax evasion to the sum of an estimated $1.8 million.
She allegedly failed to file tax returns for 2005, 2006 and 2007 last summer.
The 38-year-old will apparently do work which could include cleaning, helping out in the educational department, working outside in nature, or even in the religious services department.
TMZ claims the mother-of-six is in barracks with other inmates to spend time with in the evenings.
The former Fugees star is in a ‘minimum security type facility’ and she will be put on house arrest for three additional months following her release.
Lauryn recently wrote on Tumblr revealing her anger over the situation.
In the note she called the Internal Revenue Service a ‘derivative system’ of the ‘institution of slavery [and] colonialism’.
“I shuddered during sentencing when I kept hearing the term ‘make the IRS whole’ … make the IRS whole, knowing that I got into these very circumstances having to deal with the very energies of inequity and resistance that created and perpetuated these savage inequalities,’ she wrote.
The star faced up to one year of prison time on each count.
Earlier this year Lauryn requested the judge grant her forbearance. She filed court papers stating ‘she withdrew from society at large due to what she perceived as manipulation and very real threats to herself and her family”.
