Fugees singer Lauryn Hill will spend the next three months in jail for failure to pay tax.
Hill pleaded guilty to failing to pay tax on the $2.3 million she earned between 2005 and 2009.
The singer appeared in a Newark, New Jersey court on Monday. Judge Madeline Cox Arleo found Hill guilty of three charges of failure to pay tax and as well as the sentence has ordered her to pay a $60,000 fine, the taxes still owed, serve a year of probation and potentially three months of home confinement.
Lauryn Hill has not released an album of new music since ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ in 1998. She did released the live record ‘MTV Unplugged No 2’ in 2002.
She recently announced she had signed to Sony Music and will release a new album, possibly later this year.
