Legendary Melbourne Broadcaster Stephen ‘The Ghost’ Walker has passed away

Melbourne music radio icon Stephen ‘The Ghost’ Walker passed away on Wednesday, 3 July 2019.

Walker’s voice, words and music knowledge was broadcast to the people of Melbourne through public broadcaster Triple R for 37 years. For 14 years, Stephen was the Program Manager of the station right up until 2018.

Stephen broadcast under the pseudonym Ghost Who Talks from The Skull Cave every Friday between 4 and 7pm. His first show was in 1981. International guests such as Iggy Pop, Patti Smith and Leonard Cohen would often join his show. Listen to his Patti Smith interview here

Stephen was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis more than a decade ago. Nick Cave performed at a benefit show for his medical benefits. His final battle was with cancer.
