Adam Cohen, the son and producer of the late Leonard Cohen, has created a video for his dad’s song ‘Traveling Light’ featuring unseen personal footage of the late star.
Adam produced a lyric video for the song with Sammy Slabbick and opens the clip with Leonard smoking on a balcony and saying “I feel a lot stronger, but I’m actually a lot weaker (laughs). Its true. I wake up in my bed and I feel like, ‘That’s how I used to feel.’ Not exactly but, you know. And then I swing my legs off the bed and I try to stand up!”
The song ‘Traveling Light’ is from Leonard Cohen’s final album ‘You Want It Darker’, released on October 21, 2016. Cohen died two weeks later on November 7, 2016 at the age of 82.
The ‘You Want It Darker’ album, like Bowie’s ‘Blackstar’, turned out to be his farewell to fans. The lyrics to ‘Traveling Light’ in retrospect are clearly about a dying man preparing for his death.
Traveling Light lyrics
I’m traveling light
It’s au revoir
My once so bright
My fallen star
I’m running late
They’ll close the bar
I used to play
One mean guitar
I guess I’m just
Somebody who
Has given up
On the me and you
I’m not alone
I’ve met a few
Traveling light like
We used to do
Goodnight goodnight
My fallen star
I guess you’re right
You always are
I know you’re right
About the blues
You live some life
You’d never choose
I’m just a fool
A dreamer who
Forgot to dream
Of the me and you
I’m not alone
I’ve met a few
Traveling light like
We used to do
Traveling light
It’s au revoir
My once so bright
My fallen star
I’m running late
They’ll close the bar
I used to play
One mean…
