Lester Chambers of the Chambers Brothers was attacked on July 13 while performing at the Russell City Hayward Blues Festival in Hayward, CA.
Chambers had just dedicated the song People Get Ready to Trayvon Martin when Dinalynn Andrews-Potter jumped from the crowd, yelling “It’s all your fault” and attacked the singer, causing bruised ribs and muscles.
Lester’s attorney, John Burris, has filed a lawsuit against his attacker, the Bay Area Blues Society and the city of Hayward for $5 million, alleging that the injuries from the attack have caused him to cancel a tour and delay the recording of a new album. While the attacker is the main target of the suit, the other parties were named due to an alleged lack of proper security.
Chambers said at a Monday news conference “It’s a nightmare. When we are on stage, doing what we do, we are in a completely different world. I didn’t even see her coming, and then before I could do anything, the attack occurred.”
Andrews-Potter has been charged with felony assault and abuse of an elder.
