Grammy Award winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Levon Helm has had a road named in his honour.
Route 375 in Woodstock has been renamed Levon Helm Memorial Boulevard. The boulevard connects Route 28 in West Hurley with Route 212 in Woodstock.
The road officially became Levon Helm Memorial Boulevard tonight after a bill changing the name was passed by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The legendary Levon Helm died in April 2012. Helm was a founding member of The Band whose songs included ‘The Weight’, ‘Up On Cripple Creek’, ‘The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down’ and ‘Rag Mama Rag’.
The Band was previously known as The Hawks and backed Ronnie Hawkins. They became Bob Dylan’s backing band and official became known simply as The Band.
