L.A. band Lifehouse have played a tribute to local legend John Farnham in his hometown of Melbourne with their performance of ‘You’re The Voice’.
There were no bagpipes, but the audience loved every moment singing the words to the Australian classic performed by the American rock band on their Melbourne stop-over (and they did it in Adelaide as well).
‘You’re The Voice’ was Farnham’s comeback song in 1986. It was the first single off the now classic ‘Whispering Jack’ album, that went on to become the biggest selling album of all-time in Australia.
‘You’re The Voice’ was written by Andy Qunta, Keith Reid, Maggie Ryder and Chris Thompson. Reid, from Procol Harum, also wrote ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale. Chris Thompson was a member of Manfred Mann’s Earth Band and sang the classic Springsteen cover ‘Blinded By The Light’. Maggie Ryder was the main backing singer for Eurythmics and Queen and Australian Andy Quanta was an original member of Flowers/Icehouse.
The Farnham video also includes an appearance from (at the time husband and wife) Derryn Hinch and Jackie Weaver. Jackie (now a major film star in the USA) is currently starring with Patrick Stewart in the debauched comedy ‘Blunt Talk’.
Lifehouse are in Australia for the first time in 13 years.
