Rapper Lil’ Kim walked free from a Philadelphia prison early Monday morning after spending nearly 10 months behind bars.
Wearing sunglasses and clad in white, Lil’ Kim (Kimberly Jones) clutched a balloon and white roses as she made her way to a waiting silver Rolls Royce. She was greeted by a host of supporters, telling them ‘I love you’ and blowing them kisses. Many of her fans, some of whom had waited all night outside the prison for the 6am release, held signs emblazoned with the words, ‘Welcome Home, Queen Bee’.
Jones was originally sentenced to 366 days incarceration after lying to a grand jury over an incident outside New York radio station Hot 97 FM, in which a man was shot and injured. She was released a little over two months early for good behaviour. She will remain under house arrest for the next 30 days, and will be under supervised release for the next three years.
In a statement to hip-hop website allhiphop.com, Jones said, “Today is a joyous day for me and my family. I am extremely grateful and happy to be home. I’d like to thank the city of Philadelphia for the overwhelming support that I received, in addition to the staff at the FDC and all of my supporters. Many special thanks go out to my fans who were critical in helping me get through these past 10 months. I am looking forward to adjusting back to my normal life and getting back to work.”
