The Flaming Lips have put their 6 hour song ‘I Found This Star On The Ground’ on Soundcloud for you to listen to.

Frontman Wayne Coyne describes the song as “The Velvet Underground meets Super Mario Brothers’.

Coyne says he doesn’t expect fans to listen to it all in one go. “You could take a certain section of it every night if you wanted to, and you know, just listen to it,” he says. “I don’t think you would find it easy to just have six hours where you’re completely listening to music, unless you were kind of doing it the way that it’s intended. It’s not intended for intense listening. It’s intended to be, while you’re fucking your girlfriend, this on in the background. I mean, you’re supposed to be doing something cool while this plays.”

It is not the first time The Flaming Lips have been this whacky. In 1997 they released the ‘Zaireeka’ album. The 4CD set featured each member playing on a different CD. To hear the album with the complete band, you had to load up the four CDs and start them all at the same time.

Meanwhile, take a good long listen to ‘I Found This Star On The Ground’ here:

The Libertines, Reverend and the Makers, The Forum, Tuesday 15th April, 2025

In 2004, The Libertines toured Australia for the first time, without Pete Doherty, due to his drug addictions. When the rest of the band toured Japan, feeling betrayed he burgled Carl Barat’s flat and was jailed for six months. Since then, Doherty has toured with the band notably in 2018, where they also played the Forum and, on this sold-out show, clearly devoid of drugs and shenanigans of the past, the two albeit more mature founding members Doherty and Barat have well and truly buried the hatchet.
