On July 28, the Isley Brothers and Santana collaboration Power of Peace will be released with covers of twelve classics like Higher Ground, God Bless the Child and Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) along with one original.

That original song, I Remember, was released earlier today (June 22). Written by Carlos Santana’s wife and bandmate, Cindy Blackman Santana, the song was originally pitched to Ronnie Isley to sing but he didn’t feel the song was correct for his voice, so a discussion of another vocalist eventually came around to Cindy singing it herself.

Blackman Santana told Billboard “And of course I started sweating, because Ronald Isley, one of the greatest singers ever, is there. Carlos is there. The whole band is there. As it got more serious I said, ‘Yeah, I’d love to sing it, but Ronnie, you can’t look at me. I don’t want you looking at me when I do it,’ because singing in front of that guy is very intimidating. And it just kind of blossomed from there. Ronnie sang ad-libs around the melody and Carlos played some beautiful ad-libs around those ad-libs and it just came off.”
