Listen Up Music will focus on mental health issues specific to the music industry. The new direction was announced this week at the rebrand at Café Del Mar, Sydney.

“70 percent of musicians say they have suffered from anxiety or depression,” Listen Up Music founder Ali Taylor said in a statement.

With the Listen Up Music Songwriters Festival, bringing attention to issues within the industry felt right. “We understand how tough it is to break into the music industry and find a label. That’s why we’re opening entries to our flagship competition, the Listen Up Music Songwriter’s Festival tonight” Taylor added. “This competition has been running for three years now, and we have seen previous winners make extraordinary leaps in the Australian music industry”.

Mental health charity R U OK? has partnered with Listen Up Music. “Music is extremely important to us at R U OK? and we understand the healing factors that it possesses. Having a number of high profile musicians as R U OK? Ambassadors is testament to this. There is obvious synergy between what R U OK? and Listen Up Music are trying to achieve in the mental health sector” commented R U OK? Community Ambassador, Craig Mack said.

In addition to the festival, Listen Up Music has launched a music label, recording studio partnerships, and podcast. More details can be found on their new website, www.listenupmusic.com.au.
