All of the artists who performed at the Logie Awards last week have had a surge in sales on the Australian chart this week except for one … Kylie Minogue.
Jason Derulo, Ed Sheeran, MKTO, John Newman and Tina Arena all saw an increase in album sales in the past week but Kylie ‘Kiss Me Once’ had a considerable drop.
Chart positions this week for Logie performers, according to the ARIA chart:
(up)
MKTO – MKTO (43 to 8)
Jason Derulo – Tattoos (13 to 10)
Ed Sheeran – + (36 to 12)
John Newman – Tribute (119 to 66)
Tina Arena – Reset (195 to 93)
(down)
Kylie Minogue – Kiss Me Once (27 to 55)
Kylie also had a bad PR week in the past week. Firstly her “Dancergate scandal” after her video production company asked for volunteer dancers to appear in her ‘I Was Gonna Cancel’ video generated a day of bad press nationally. In the end it was confirmed that all dancers would be paid for their work on the video, after Actors Equity stepped in.
Then came the criticism that Kylie was miming ‘I Was Gonna Cancel’ during her Logies performance. She quickly denied the accusations and said that she did sing live on the show. However, again that was after another day of bad press.
‘I Was Gonna Cancel’ was written by Pharrell Williams and released as a single on April 22. After two weeks it is yet to make the iTunes or ARIA Top 100 singles, making it the slowest selling Kylie single ever.
Kylie did have a positive profile booster last night when she debuted as a judge on The Voice (Australia). The show generated 2.16 million viewers.
Kylie replaced Delta Goodrem for this season of the show. will.i.am also replaced Seal. Ricky Martiin and Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden have returned as judges this season.
