NZ pop princess Lorde has picked up a Diamond certification for 10 million sales of her song ‘Royals’ in the USA.
‘Royals’ was released as a single on 19 March 2013. It is one of only six songs certified Diamond in the past five years.
Lorde joins a shortlist of only five female artists who have achieved Diamond for a song.
‘Royals’ first appeared on Lorde’s debut EP ‘The Love Club’ in 2013. It was also included on her debut album ‘Heroine’.
Lorde wrote the song at her home in New Zealand while still a student. She recorded it at Golden Age Studios in Auckland, owned by co-written Joel Little. The song was finished in her school holidays.
Lorde made news this week when she was the only person nominated for Album of the Year snubbed from performing a song from her album. She responded with a full page ad in a New Zealand paper.
