Lorde called the Coachella music festival ‘mental’ when she hit the stage on Saturday.
The British singer performed on day two of the iconic event, held for two weekends in Indio, California.
The 17-year-old star was met with huge cheers and one of the biggest audiences of the afternoon when she began her set as the sun went down.
‘This is actually the first big thing I ever booked,’ Lorde told the crowd, according to Entertainment Weekly. ‘I said . holy f**k, we booked Coachella. I was screaming on the phone. We are so lucky to be here. This is mental.’
The teenager also thanked the crowd for making the wildest dreams of a “kid from New Zealand” come true.
The second biggest act of the day was Pharrell, who hit the stage right after Lorde. The Happy star had several guest stars for his set, including Snoop Dogg for Drop It Like It’s Hot and Beautiful, Nelly for Hot In Herre, Busta Rhymes and Puff Daddy for Pass the Courvoisier, Part 2, and Gwen Stefani for Hollaback Girl.
Other big hits were Skrillex, who had a light show as part of his set, and Muse. The Pet Shop Boys delighted the crowd by performing classic hit West End Girls.
Solange Knowles performed Kate Bush’s hit Cloudbusting, before bringing out sister Beyonce to sing Losing You.
Coachella continues next weekend, with artists including Arcade Fire, Beck, and Calvin Harris set to perform.
