Lucy Spazzy, formerly of Melbourne’s The Spazzys, is creating a ripple as Lucy and the Rats in London.
The UK blurb describes the sound of Lucy and the Rats as “a lab experiment gone wrong’. In Australia we know that the experiment started in the pubs of Melbourne around 2000.
The Spazzys were twin sisters Kat and Lucy Spazzy with drummer Alice McNamara (Ally Spazzy).
The Spazzys achieved a Top 40 hit in Australia with a cover of the 1963 hit ‘My Boyfriend’s Back’ from The Angels (the 60s girl-group, not the 70s rock band).
In 2011, Kat Spazzy obtained her law degree and is now a practising lawyer in Melbourne.
Sister Lucy packed up her bass guitar and moved to the other side of the planet in 2015. Minus her Spazzys she needed some rats and soon found Manu (Thee Tumbitas) for drums and Mike Animal Cannibal and Joe To Lose (Los Perros, Johnny Throttle) for the twin guitar assault.
The self-titled Lucy an the Rats debut album will be released on May 25. It was recorded in Denia, Spain by Johnny Casino and Jim Diamond (White Stripes and Dirtbombs).
