Lush Cancels Europeans Dates After Phil King Quits

English rockers Lush have been forced to cancel upcoming European dates after bassist Phil King quit.

Lush formed in 1987 in London with King joining the band in 1992 and playing with them until their split in 1996, returning last year for a new tour, single and EP.

The band released a statement on King’s departure:

We are very sad to announce the departure of Phil King from the band. As a result, we will no longer be able to appear at the Iceland Airwaves and Rolling Stone Weekender festivals – massive apologies to everyone who was looking forward to seeing us play there. We are in the process of acquiring another bass player and look forward to our final show at Manchester Academy on November 25th.

During the Lush break, King played with the Jesus and Mary Chain, Felt, See See Rider, Biff Bang Pow!, Jackie DeShannon and a number of other bands.

King’s plans for the future are not known at this time.

While Lush never charted well in the U.S. with their albums, two made the U.K. top ten, Spooky (1992 / #7) and Lovelife (1996 / #8). They did have two hits in the U.S. on the Modern Rock chart with Sweetness and Light (1990 / #4) and For Love (1991 / #9).
