Lynyrd Skynyrd has written that they are cancelling the next two weeks worth of shows so that Gary Rossington can recover from emergency surgery.
The band canceled their Tuesday night show in Lewiston, NY and Thursday in Hyannis, MA so that Rossington could see doctors after suffering chest pains.
Details remain a bit sketchy but it appears that Rossington either had a heart attack or was at a high risk for one as he underwent surgery to repair a blockage in his arteries, so the band has postponed or cancelled the following additional dates:
07/23 – Big Flats, NY – The Summer Stage at Tag’s
07/28 – Clarkston, MI – DTE Energy Music Theatre
07/29 – Mount Pleasant, MI – Soaring Eagle Amphitheatre
07/30 – Elgin, IL – Festival Park
The Michigan dates were the beginning of their tour with Peter Frampton. Those with tickets should contact their local box office to find out if Frampton will still be playing.
The band’s next scheduled date, again with Frampton, is now August 4 at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, TX.
The band’s official announcement:
The Lynyrd Skynyrd band is canceling or rescheduling the next 2 weeks of touring, while Gary Rossington recovers at home from heart surgery to repair blockage in his arteries.
Currently, the band hopes to resume touring on August 4 in Woodlands, TX. The band has rescheduled Boston, MA at Blue Hills Bank Pavilion to September 23 and moved Big Flats, NY at Tag’s Summer Sound Stage to the following day, September 24. We are continuing to work on other potential re-scheduling, as well. Please stay tuned to the Lynyrd Skynyrd website and social media pages for updates.
