Judi Dench’s James Bond character M is to meet her death in the next James Bond movie ‘Skyfall’.
The UK Daily Star is reporting an insider on the set as saying “we’ve just filmed M’s death scene”.
The newspaper is also reporting that Ralph Fiennes will become the new M.
Bernard Lee played the original M from ‘Dr No’ (1962) to ‘Moonraker’ (1979). Robert Brown took over the role in 1981 for ‘Octopussy’ and played M in four films to ‘License To Kill’ in 1989.
Dame Judi Dench has played the M character in the James Bond movies since 1995’s ‘GoldenEye’. That was also the first Bond movie to star Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Dench took over in 1995 after the longest ever break between Bond films. She based her character on Stella Rimington, the first female real-life head of MI5 between 1992 and 1996.
‘Skyfall’ will be Dame Judi’s 7th Bond movie. She has also played the character in ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ (1997), ‘The World Is Not Enough’ (1999), ‘Die Another Day’ (2002), ‘Casino Royale’ (2006) and ‘Quantum of Solace’ (2008).
‘Skyfall’ is currently in production and will premiere on October 28, 2012.
In this movie James Bond’s loyalty to M is challenged over secrets from her past. MI6 is attacked and Bond must solve the treat alone.
Fiennes has remained tight-lipped about his role in the movie. Officially he is credited as playing “a government agent”.
