Oregon singer-songwriter M. Ward returns after She & Him for his guest-heavy sixth solo album.
M. Ward has recently spent time of late releasing two albums with actress Zooey Deschanel as She & Him.
Following his most recent and most-successful solo album, 2009’s Hold Time, M. Ward has announced his next album, titled A Wasteland Companion.
M. Ward said in a press release: “Between now and when I made Hold Time there has been a lot of travelling which requires a lot of reckoning with what to leave behind and what to carry – material and otherwise – and thinking about what I want versus what I need, creatively and otherwise. I wanted to get a reflection of that on the album. It was a process of stripping away my security blanket, which is the same four walls I always record in.”
The album’s twelve songs were recorded with eighteen musicians in eight different studios in the US and the UK.
Contributors include Deschanel, of course, as well as Bright Eyes’ Mike Mogis, Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley, Giant Sand’s Howe Gelb and Devotchka’s Tom Hagerman.
A Wasteland Companion will be released in Australia on Spunk Records on Friday 6 April.
