The program for the Perth International Arts Festival has been unveiled, with Cat Power, Archie Roach and Tim Rogers on the list, along with funk legend Maceo Parker, who will be returning to Australia to play on the eve of the Festival.
He’s played with James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic and Prince and last year he brought the funk to Bluesfest, as well as sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney. Now it’s Perth’s turn, announcing on Wednesday that Parker will be playing at the Chevron Festival Gardens on 7th February 2013, helping to get the international arts festival into full swing.
Also in the almost month-long program of events is Cat Power, who will play two shows on 26th and 27th February, before embarking on a tour of her own, making her way east to finish at the Golden Plains Festival in Victoria in March. Archie Roach, The Tallest Man On Earth and Tim Rogers and the Bamboos will all play, as will Melbourne duo Dead Can Dance, the eight-piece New Orleans brass band Soul Rebels and experimental electronica jazz pioneers The Raah Project.
The oldest annual international multi-arts festival in the southern hemisphere, The Perth Festival offers nine sub-programs across music, dance, theatre, visual art, writing and film.
It will run from 8th February until 2nd March 2013 across a range of venues.
