After the performance on Monday night on The Voice for their new single “We Are Done” (TW-4), The Madden Brothers could be on track to take over the top spot on the ARIA Singles chart this coming weekend.
This would give the brothers their first No.1 in Australia, as Good Charlotte only ever peaked at No.2 with “Dance Floor Anthem” (July 2007) for three broken weeks.
This of course will dethrone Justice Crew with “Que Sera” down to No.2, but after nine weeks it’s still the longest run at the top of the ARIA Singles chart for an Aussie act. Possibly debuting within the Top 5 could be Ariana Grande with Zedd on “Break Free”, the next track lifted from her forthcoming album “My Everything” (due 22-Aug), whilst Ed Sheeran with “Don’t” and Nico & Vinz’s “Am I Wrong” should retain their Top 5 status, with Tove Lo, Sia, Milky Chance still within the Top 10, and Sam Smith should climb back within the ten with his track “Stay With Me” after Johnny did a rendition of the song on The Voice this past week, whilst climbing into the ten could be Charli XCX with “Boom Clap, which leapt to No.12 this past week.
The recent UK No.1 single “Ghost” by Ella Henderson climbed to No.23 this week, but could leap into the Top 15 this coming weekend, whilst “Geronimo” (TW-11) won’t drop too far thanks to The Voice rendition of the song, their current tour and pending debut album due next week.
The Voice: Live Finals; We could see high entries for the competition’s only duos, ZK with “Time After Time” (Cyndi Lauper) and Gabriel & Cecilia with their very stripped back version of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (Nirvana), whilst further down Johnny Rollins and his version of “Stay With Me” (Sam Smith) and Jackson Thomas with “Bridge Over Troubled Water” (Simon & Garfunkel) could be Top 40 entries. There’s also Sabrina Batshon with “Spectrum (Say My Name)” (Florence & the Machine) and Frank Lakoudis with “We are the Champions” (Queen) with potential Top 50 debuts. In the lower region of the chart we could see Anja Nissen with “Wild” (Jessie J), Holly Tapp with “Lovefool” (The Cardigans) and Kat Jade with her belting version of “Telephone” (Lady GaGa) (all Top 70) whilst Robbie Balmer could also enter with “Love Lost” (Tame Impala).
Bonnie Anderson has been staying stable with “Blackout” (27-29-28), but it should climb into either the lower Top 20 or just outside of it, whilst “Back Home” (TW-39) by Andy Grammer should leap into the Top 25. Will.i.am with “It’s My Birthday” (TW-37) should climb to the other end of the 31-40 regions and the debut of “Something’s Missing” (New TW-35) by Sheppard should remain stable. New all-girl-troupe G.R.L. should see their second entry (and first outright) this weekend with “Ugly Heart” cracking the Top 40 (they featured on the recent Pitbull No.10 single “Wild, Wild Heart”), and the Flume remix of the new Chet Faker track “Gold” (New TW-65) should jump up into the Top 50.
Alt-j have another new track ready to enter this week entitled “Left Hand Free” (Top 60) and there could be further entries from Paloma Faith and “Only Love Can Hurt Like This” (Top 80), Bon Iver from the new Zach Braff film ‘Wish I Was Here” soundtrack with “Heavenly Father” and Trey Songz teams with Nicki Minaj for “Touchin’, Lovin’” and Dillon Francis joins DJ Snake for “Get Low”, and from her forthcoming album ‘There There’, Megan Washington could enter with “Begin Again” (all Top 90), whilst recent Glastonbury favorite George Ezra could debut with “Budapest” and Fifth Harmony could also enter with their Destiny’s Child sounding track “BO$$” (both Top 100).
Albums:
Sia is on track for her first No.1 album in Australia this week, as “1000 Forms of Fear” is currently (and has been all week) selling at No.1 on most digital retailers, with Sia’s previous best effort on the albums chart being “We Are Born” (July 2010) which debuted and peaked at No.2.
It’s looks like it going to be a very busy Australian Top 10 this week too, with 5 Seconds of Summer (TW-1), Chet Faker (just finished his tour), and Hillsong all retaining their ten-status, whilst they could be joined by AllDay with his new set “Startup Cult”, The Voice act Gabriel and Cecelia could see their 2013 EP “Dirt on Our Shoes” enter high and The McClymonts new album “Here’s to You and I” is set for a Top 10 berth. Retaining their top ten status should be Ed Sheeran. Coldplay and possibly either the ‘Frozen’ soundtrack or Sam Smith, whilst leaping into the ten due to her current national tour should be Lorde with her former No.1 set “Pure Heroine” (TW-18).
Further entries could come from Trey Songz with “Trigga” and Thelma Plum with her EP “Monsters” (both Top 30). With ‘Jersey Boys’ out in cinemas now, “The Very Best of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons’ could crack the Top 40 this week. Lower down the debut album for Magic!, “Don’t Kill the Magic” could debut, with local singer Jacob Whitesides scoring an entry with his “3AM – The EP”, whilst Skrillex has a new mini-album out “Recess Remixes (EP)”. The Acid could enter with “Liminal” and the self-titled set for Fractures could also chart this coming weekend.
