Madonna has extended an olive branch to Elton John over their ongoing feud during a show in Nice, France.
During the Tuesday night show, she was introducing the song Masterpiece when she said “I know he’s a big fan of it. And I know he’s a big fan of mine. And you know? I forgive him. Gotta start somewhere.”
Sources, including TMZ, have questioned the sincerity of the comment as Masterpiece won the Golden Globe for Best Song From a Motion Picture, beating out Elton’s own Hello Hello. The win ignited comments from both Elton and his partner, David Furnish, over the fact that Masterpiece was not written for the film W.E. but was an album track tacked over the credits while Hello Hello was an original composition that appeared within the film Gnomeo and Juliet.
Comments between the two former friends escalated over the ensuing months and were capped off last week when Elton said Madonna “looks like a fucking fairground stripper.”
The Material Girl has also removed a swastika that was superimposed on the face of French National Front member Marine Le Pen after the group complained. She has replaced it with a large question mark.
