The veteran singer, whose MDNA album did not live up to her legacy both critically and in sales, proved her ability to bring in a crowd of concertgoers by putting on the top tour of the year according to Billboard. The singer had 72 sellouts (out of 72 shows) and grossed $228,406,085.

Second for the year was Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band who had 54 sellouts out of 72 shows for a total gross of $199,371,791. Where Springsteen did set the pace was in total attendance, putting 2,165,925 people in the seats compared to Madonna’s 1,635,176. A combination of lower ticket prices and larger venues led to the difference.

Roger Waters was third for the year followed by Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour by Cirque du Soleil and Coldplay.

The top ten followed by the veteran artists in the lower part of the list (Gross / Sell Outs/Total Shows):

•01. Madonna ($228,406,085 / 72/72)
