With the success of her 2015 holiday season movie, A Christmas Melody, Mariah Carey and the Hallmark Channel have entered into a three picture deal that will see the singer developing, executive producing, directing, co-starring and composing in new projects.
Michele Vicary, Executive VP of Programming, said “We are honored to continue our collaboration with the multi-talented Mariah Carey. It’s rare to work with a talent who can produce, direct, star and also compose original music for a project, and we know she will deliver for our viewers once again.”
The first film of the new deal is expected for Hallmark’s “Countdown to Valentine’s Day” programming in early 2017.
Carey has dabbled in acting for much of her career starting with the 1999 movie The Bachelor and a starring role in 2001’s Glitter. Upcoming projects include this summer’s Popstar: Never Stop Never Believing and 2017’s The Lego Batman Movie.
A Christmas Melody, which aired on Hallmark during the 2015 holiday season, delivered a 3.3 HH rating while the special that followed the film, Mariah Carey’s Merriest Christmas, with Kenny “Babyface” Edmunds and Kelsey Grammer, was the most watched holiday special in Hallmark Channel history.
