Mark Brandon ‘Chopper’ Read has lost his battle with liver cancer at the age of 58.
The notorious criminal reached international notoriety when Eric Bana played him in the Australian movie Chopper.
Just two weeks ago, Chopper gave a Q&A at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre but was admitted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital the very next day.
Read spent almost half his life in prison, 23 years up to 1998 for various crimes but was never convicted for murder despite so often boasting about it.
Chopper became a best selling author selling more than 500,000 books. His first book ‘Chopper: From The Inside’ was written in prison and released in 1991. In March 2008 Read revealed that he had contracted Hepatitis C and had maybe five years to live. He was right. In April 2012, he confirmed that he had liver cancer.
