British songstress Mary Hopkin has occasionally released archival and new material over the last decade but she has steadfastly turned down any live performances.
Her reluctance is unfortunate as she still has that wonderful, lilting voice from hits like Those Were the Days and Goodbye but she has not been on the road since two tours with The Chieftains in 1990 and 1999.
Fortunately, Mary’s daughter, Jessica Lee Morgan, has chosen to carry on the family’s legacy, taking her Very Hopkin tour across the U.K. The concert will include many of Hopkin’s best known songs with Jessica joined by a number of talented musicians.
Craig Willoughby, who played with Mary when she was touring and was a member of the Strawbs for over twenty years will be on the guitar while his partner, Cathryn Craig, who has sung with the Righteous Brothers and Shel Silverstein, will join him for their own set to open the shows.
Christian Thomas, who also is Jessica’s partner and has produced and engineered for both her and Mary, will be on bass, and Simon Adams, who is described as a “professional Ringo” is on drums.
The tour three stop tour starts Wednesday night (September 9) at the Borderline in London followed by Friday (September 11) at the Pontardawe Arts Center in Pontardawe and Saturday (September 12) at The Globe in Cardiff.
