Mary J. Blige is currently nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Mudbound along with a second nomination for Best Song.
Blige, who has been acting since 1998, is ready to spend even more time before the cameras with a role in the upcoming Netflix comedy Umbrella Academy. The show is based on a comic series that was created by My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way for Dark Horse comics.
The show is about a family of superheroes including the Monocle, Spaceboy, the Kraken, the Rumor, the Séance, Number Five, the Horror and the White Violin. Blige will play Cha-Cha, a time-traveling hit woman.
The series will also star Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, David Castaneda, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Ellen Page with additional roles still to be cast.
Among Blige’s films are I Can Do Bad All By Myself, Rock of Ages, Black Nativity and Mudbound. Her TV credits include The Jamie Foxx Show, Strong Medicine, Empire and Black-ish.
