Mazzy Star will return after a seventeen year absence with the album Seasons of Your Day, due on September 24 via Rhymes of an Hour Records.
David Roback and Hope Sandoval first worked together when Sandoval replaced Kendra Smith as the lead singer of the group Opal. After almost two years of completing a contract for that group, the duo officially formed Mazzy Star and, in 1990, released their debut album She Hangs Brightly. The followed with two more albums (So Tonight That I Might See (1993) and Among My Swan (1996)) after which they dissolved the group citing interference in their work by Capitol Records.
Roback and Sandoval came back together in 2010 for a tour and single but it is only now that they are preparing to release their fourth album. All of the original members of the band have returned for the set along with guest appearances from Colm Ó Cíosóig of My Bloody Valentine and the late Bert Jansch.
The band will tour in support of the album later in the year.
