Meat Loaf Calls AFL Jerks

Meat Loaf has finally spoken up about his abortion of a performance at the AFL Grand Final in Melbourne in early October.

The classic rock star has called the organisers at the AFL “jerks” for not allowing enough time for a soundcheck and not providing a live piano for his performance.

Meat Loaf claims he has to sing along to a backing track but could not hear the music through his earpiece.

The performance has gone down as possibility the worst music performance at a sports event ever in Australia. Despite that, Meat is reported to have picked up around $500,000 for his 15 minutes of work.

The AFL has been criticised for using overseas talent for the event and paying through the nose for the privilege. Last year, Lionel Richie sang at the Grand Final.

Meat Loaf is urging other artists to turn down the offer if it comes to you. “I will go out of my way to tell any artist do not play for them,” Meat told the ABC.

That is highly unlikely to happen with half a million bucks being slapped in their face for a 15-minute song and dance act. Few artists will turn that down.

Toto’s 2025 setlist focuses on the heritage of the band. The setlist was interesting. Compared to how it was curated for Australia in 2019 this time Toto kept to the albums of the 1900s. Mind you, there were no complaints from the audience for doing that. The biggest hits came from those early years.
