Meghan Trainor has the number one song in Australia.

After leaping into the Top 10 last week, 20 year old US singer Meghan Trainor climbs two places to take out the new No.1 ARIA Singles Chart pinnacle this week with her debut single “All About the Bass”, the track picking up Gold (●) in sales after only three weeks on the chart.

The track becomes the 1022nd No.1 single in Australia (1940 to 2014) and the 457th for ARIA (1983 to 2014), plus the 39th chart-topper for the Epic label, the most recent being “Say Something” for A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera back in February, and now the second for this decade, in fact that’s also the last time that a US Female Solo artist was at No.1, and the last new US Solo Female singer prior to that was Kelly Clarkson with “Mr. Know it All” in October 2011, plus she also becomes the 667th American artist to reach No.1 in Australia, whilst she’s also the first Meghan (or even Megan) as a solo singer to reach the top here.

“All About the Bass” is the 23rd song with the word ‘All’ in its title, plus the thirteenth to start with ‘All’; the last one being “All of Me” by John Legend back in December 2013, plus the ninth ‘About’ within the title, whilst it’s the first time for ‘Bass’ in a No.1 song title here. Australia is the first country to place this song at No.1, and its jumped from 14 to No.3 in New Zealand as of Friday’s chart and in the US this week it leapt in its fourth week within the Top 100 from 28 to No.8, with it also sitting within the Top 20 in Canada.

After two weeks at No.1, Paloma Faith drops back to No.2 with “Only Love Can Hurt Like This”, which picks up a ▲Platinum sales certification this week, whilst also cracking ▲Platinum are G.R.L. with “Ugly Heart”, which due to Meghan’s leap to the top, is also pushed down a spot this week to No.3. The top four singles are all by female acts this week, with the trio of Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj leaping up eighteen places to a new peak of No.4 with “Bang Bang”. The song becomes Jessie’s fifth Top 10 single, Ariana’s third consecutive visit to the ten, and Nicki’s seventh; with her last appearance being back in late December 2012 on the Justin Bieber track “Beauty & the Beat” (HP-9), plus see below for her debut and tally of entries within the fifty this week.
