Melanie Chisholm has reminisced about the Spice Girls’ 2012 reunion at the London Olympics amid reports suggesting she is preparing to sue to block a partial comeback.
The British girl group delighted fans four years ago by taking centre stage to perform for the closing ceremony at the last Olympic Games, and on Friday, Chisholm, known as Sporty Spice, took to social media to celebrate the anniversary.
Alongside a photo collage of the occasion, Mel C wrote, “The most glorious day! #London2012 #spiceupyourlife 4 years ago! Wow!”
Her Instagram post emerged as a source told The Sun newspaper the 42-year-old singer was consulting with lawyers in a bid to prevent her former bandmates Emma Bunton, Geri Horner, and Melanie Brown reuniting for a partial Spice Girls comeback, after she and Victoria Beckham both turned down offers to join a reunion tour.
“Mel has told the other girls she is consulting lawyers about whether the reunion can go ahead without her,” said the insider. “She believes she brought music credibility to the group and there is no Spice Girls without her.”
The source alleged Geri, Emma, and Mel B had ditched their earlier plans to go by their initials, GEM, and that’s what allegedly prompted Chisholm to explore her legal options: “There was talk of using the nickname GEM but they’ve decided against that because the strength is through the Spice brand.”
The stars have yet to comment on the report. Emma, Geri, and Mel B are still said to be pressing ahead with their musical reunion to mark 20 years since the release of debut hit single, Wannabe. The trio confirmed their comeback plans last month (Jul16) and they are said to have booked a date to perform in London’s Hyde Park next July.
