Melbourne International Airport is set to follow in the cultural path of Austin, Nashville and New Orleans in the USA with the Boarding Pass Music Festival.
From 13 to 20 December 2019 there will be 74 pop-up performances at Melbourne Airport by Melbourne artists such as Talei Wolfgram, Davey Lane and Fenn Wilson.
Andrew Gardiner, the Chief of Aviation at Melbourne Airport said in a statement, “We recognise that Melbourne is a great music city and this festival is an opportunity to celebrate home-grown talent inside the state’s major gateway.”
“What better way of brightening the travels of visitors in the lead-up to Christmas than presenting some of the city’s best emerging artists, across all four terminals, as a way of giving back and improving the overall traveller experience.”
Other artists listed to play include The Bambi Kills, Lilla Meraki, Velvet Bloom, Iseula, Mimi Gilbert, Miss Mikaila, Oliver Northam, Immy Owusu, Yara, Jarryn Phegan, Rosa Rico, Slowcoaching and Dalli.
Event Producer Andrew Watt said, “I was so excited when the team at Melbourne Airport agreed we should bring together a diverse and young line-up of Melbourne musicians. We have a group of artists encompassing folk, indie-pop, blues, dream-pop, classical, neo-soul, rock-pop, country, jazz, and classical music, all performing mainly original music. And, reflecting Melbourne beautifully we have artists whose cultural heritage includes over twelve different nationalities.”
