Music Victoria will bring live music to Melbourne’s Tullamarine International Airport during the busiest two weeks of music in the city.
From Wednesday November 14 to Friday November 16 Mick Thomas’ Roving Commission, Benny Walker, Francolin and Vikingo De Jerez will perform on two stages outside Virgin Domestic arrivals and also at PJ O’Brien’s bar at the International Terminal.
For Mick Thomas, it will be the launch of his new band Roving Commission. “Musicians spend so much time going through airports and during a long tour, some airports can start to look the same,” he said.
“Here’s a chance to say Melbourne is a vibrant music city with entertaining original music on the menu from start to finish.”
Music Victoria CEO Patrick Donovan was inspired by the idea after seeing a similar event at Austin Airport in Texas during SXSW. “It says a lot to visitors to Melbourne when they are greeted by wonderful Victorian songs and melodies,” said Donovan.
“Live music is one of our greatest assets, so it’s appropriate that we are showing it off. We will also have the new ‘Melbourne Music City’ guide available to help visitors find their favourite styles of music.”
The project has been named AirPlay.
