Melbourne Americana artist Matt Joe Gow has invited a few locals along for his sessions for his third album ‘Break, Rattle and Roll’, including The Weeping Willows, Greta Ziller and newcomer Katya Harrop.
“I wanted to throw everything I could at this record,” says Matt in a statement, “to do these songs justice and make the best record I could. And I feel I achieved that.”
‘Break Rattle and Roll’ was recorded with Matt’s long-time collaborator Andrew Pollack.
“We’ve been building our own studio, so we knew this record would be the last for some time recorded in a large pro studio and we wanted to make the most of the space and the ability to track everyone at once,” Matt said. “ We chose ‘The Aviary’ in Melbourne, which is a great space, has a vintage atmosphere, and we went for a raw ‘straight off the floor’ feel. There’s no studio trickery, it’s the sound of a band playing in a room. Produced by myself and Andrew Pollock overall it’s upbeat and full of energy with a few more gentle breathers in there which perhaps hark back to my previous albums.”
The first taste of ‘Break, Rattle and Roll’ is ‘Ride On’.
“I think any true songwriter likes to write songs, regardless of whether they will be released or not. I write a lot. It’s definitely cathartic for me. I like playing guitar. I like singing. It’s what I do.”
‘Break, Rattle and Roll’ will be released on 5 October, 2018.
