After the depressing news about the East Brunswick Club and the uncertain future of the Prince Bandroom it’s nice to know that there is a new venue opening its doors in 2012 – The Regal Ballroom.
The Regal Ballroom can be found at the top of Northcote Hill on High Street and its use as a music venue will commemorate it’s 100th year standing. It was the first cinema in Victoria to be lit by electricity, and is also the state’s oldest cinema.
According to venue booker Neil Wedd, the venue has a stage that is 7 x 5 metres, a “flown JBL line array system” (inverted commas to signify that I have no idea what that means, I just copy and paste!) and a floor that can be covered in seating for a dinner and show arrangement or cleared out to make it standing room only.
The venue can be found at 216 High Street, Northcote, VIC, 3070.
The first round of gigs are the venue are:
FEBRUARY
3 – The DC3 with ROOT
10 – Kelly Auty
17 – Tex Perkins and the Band of Gold
MARCH
3 – The Bushwackers
9 – Adam Cohen (son of Leonard)
11 – Justin Townes Earle
Further acts will be announced soon.
