Menswear’s singer has announced his first performance in 15 years.
Johnny Dean will play a set of David Bowie covers as part of London-based Britpop club night Nuis@nce, which takes its name from Menswear’s debut album.
Dean said: “I thought Bowie was quite appropriate because 1. he owns 2013 really, and 2. no other musician had as much influence on Britpop than him, not even the Beatles. He was the cloth we all embroidered on really.”
The press statement suggests there may be some treats for Menswear fans. It reads: “Don’t be surprised if the set isn’t entirely Bowie covers…”
The special gig takes place at the Buffalo bar in north London on Friday 7 June 2013.
It will raise funds for the National Autistic Society. Dean has Asperger syndrome.
Menswear were part of the Britpop explosion and are best known for single Daydreamer. The band officially split up in 1998.
