Merle Haggard’s 2016, so far, has turned into one battle with pneumonia after another.
The country legend is once again in the hospital fighting double pneumonia, causing him to postpone his March concert dates. According to his publicist, his doctors want him to take one month off to fully recover from the illness.
Haggard previously postponed all of his February shows after being hospitalized for the same ailment, seeking additional opinions after he said he didn’t feel that he fully recovered; however, he changed course and put the dates back on the schedule, hitting the road less than a week after the original announcement.
Haggard, 78, had part of a lung removed in 2008 due to non-small-cell lung cancer and, over the last couple of years, has been sidelined with pneumonia numerous times.
Merle’s last album, Django and Jimmie with Willie Nelson, was the highest charting of his career, debuting at number 7 on the Billboard 200 and beating his previous high by 30 spots on the chart.
