On April 15, Metallica will release deluxe versions of their first two albums, Kill ‘Em All (1983) and Ride the Lightning (1984) and when they say “deluxe”, they mean it.
Kill ‘Em All will be five CDs, four records, a DVD and a book while Ride the Lightning will be six CDs, four records, a DVD, a book and a mini-book with James Hatfield’s hand written lyrics.
Plus, while many of these deluxe sets duplicate material between the CD’s and vinyl, Metallica is giving you exclusive material on each outside of the original albums. For Kill ‘Em All, the vinyl includes a Paris show from 1984 and a picture disc while the CDs have interviews, rough mixes, remixes, a 1984 Middletown, NY show and one from Palo Alto, CA from 1983. The DVD is still another show from 1983 in Chicago.
Ride the Lightning’s vinyl has a 1985 Hollywood Palladium show and a picture disc. The CDs include interviews, demos, rough mixes, a 1985 San Francisco show, a 1984 London concert and the Castle Donington show of August 17, 1985. The DVD has the Metal Hammer Festival and MTV’s Day at the Green shows from 1985 and a Danish TV appearance.
